Toyota began manufacturing cars in 1933 as a division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works¹. The first production car, the Toyota Model AA, was released in 1936. In 1937, Toyota Motor Co. was established as an independent and separate company.

POPULAR MODELS BY DECADE


1960-69 During the 1960s, Toyota’s most popular model was the Toyota Corolla. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla quickly became a top-selling vehicle in Japan and gained popularity worldwide. Its affordability, reliability, and fuel efficiency made it a favorite among consumers.

Another notable model from Toyota during this decade was the Toyota Corona, which was a mainstay in Toyota’s lineup and became quite successful, especially in the mid-1960s.
