History-Subaru

Subaru began manufacturing cars in **1953**. The first car they produced was the **Subaru 1500**, which rolled off the production line in **1954**.


Early Beginnings

Subaru’s roots trace back to 1915 when it started as an aircraft research company named Fuji Heavy Industries (FHI). After World War II, FHI diversified into various fields, including motor scooters and buses.

First Car and Initial Growth

In 1953, FHI decided to enter the automobile market and created the Subaru brand1. The first car, the Subaru 1500, was produced in 1954. Although only 20 units were made due to supply issues, it marked the beginning of Subaru’s journey in car manufacturing.

Innovations and Expansion (1960s – 1980s)

Subaru introduced the Subaru 360 in 1958, a tiny air-cooled car that became quite popular in Japan1. The Subaru 1000, launched in 1966, was the first car to feature Subaru’s now-famous boxer engine1. In 1972, Subaru introduced the Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive system, which became a hallmark of their vehicles.

Global Market and Era of Innovations (1980s – 1990s)

During the 1980s and 1990s, Subaru expanded its presence in global markets. The company introduced several successful models, including the Legacy and the Impreza1. The WRX and WRX STI variants of the Impreza gained a strong following among performance enthusiasts.

Modern Era and Future Directions (2000s – Present)

In the 2000s, Subaru continued to innovate with models like the Forester and the Outback, which combined rugged capability with everyday practicality. The company also ventured into hybrid and electric vehicles, with the introduction of the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid and the Subaru Solterra, their first all-electric SUV.
