

MG, originally known as Morris Garages, began manufacturing cars in the 1920s. The first cars were modified versions of Morris cars, created by Cecil Kimber, who was the manager of Morris Garages. The MG Car Company Limited was officially incorporated in July 1930.

1930: The M.G. Car Company Limited was officially incorporated. The first cars were modified versions of Morris cars, known as "Kimber Specials".
Growth and Development
1930s-1950s: MG became well-known for its sports cars, including models like the MG T-series. The company gained a reputation for producing affordable and stylish sports cars.
1952: MG became part of the British Motor Corporation (BMC) following a merger with Austin.
Changes in Ownership
1968: BMC merged with Leyland Motor Corporation to form British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC). MG continued to produce sports cars under this new ownership.
1980: MG production at the Abingdon factory ceased, marking the end of an era for the brand.
Revival and Modern Era
1990s-2000s: MG went through various ownership changes, including being part of the Rover Group and later the MG Rover Group.
2005: The MG Rover Group entered receivership, and the MG brand was acquired by Nanjing Automobile Group.
2007: Nanjing Automobile Group merged with SAIC Motor, and MG production restarted in China.
2011: The first new MG model in the UK for 16 years, the MG6, was launched.
Present Day
Today: MG is a division within SAIC Motor, a Chinese state-owned automaker. The brand continues to produce vehicles and has expanded its market presence globally.
MG has a rich history of producing iconic sports cars and has undergone numerous changes in ownership and production locations. Despite these changes, the brand has remained a beloved name in the automotive world.       Â
